The West Gonja Municipal Assembly has presented GHC 191,000 as start-up capital to persons with disability in the municipality, with 46 beneficiaries receiving between GHC 2,500 and GHC 5,000 each.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Fuseini Aminu, Chairman of the Disbursements Committee of the Disability Fund, explained that beneficiaries were given the opportunity to apply to the Assembly, indicating the specific businesses they intended to establish with the funds. He noted that allocations were made based on individual applications, with some receiving GHC 5,000, others GHC 4,000, GHC 3,500, and the least amount being GHC 2,500.

The Municipal Chief Executive for West Gonja, Honourable Yakubu Yussif Castro, advised beneficiaries to make good use of the money and emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency in the disbursement process. He explained that the public presentation was intended to address previous concerns about lack of transparency in disability fund disbursements under past administrations.
Honourable Castro further disclosed that the Assembly is currently undergoing procurement processes for applicants who requested livestock and other businesses requiring the Assembly to purchase start-up kits. He assured those yet to receive support that they would be attended to in subsequent disbursements.

The beneficiaries, including persons who are physically impaired, visually impaired, among others, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the support and pledged to use the funds judiciously.
