The West Gonja Municipal Football Association Chairman, Mr. Saaka Iddrisu Togo, shared insights on Spear FM’s Weekend Sports on Sunday 6th October, 2024. He revealed that the Municipal Football Association (MFA) is emulating Tamale’s success in securing sponsorship packages for local football leagues within the municipality.
Speaking on the upcoming women’s football gala on Friday October 11th to Sunday October 13th,2024 organised by Mrs. Naada Biliijo Jinapor, wife of the Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency, Mr. Togo stated that they have successfully sourced funding for two major sporting events in one year. The first event was the Sharaf Mahamah Foundation Tournament for male clubs, and now the Naada Foundation Tournament for women.
Mr. Togo acknowledged that acquiring sponsorship for games in their part of the country has not been easy. However, through commitment, dedication, persistence, and collaborative efforts with other individuals, they have managed to secure some support. He expressed hope that the Naada Foundation Tournament would also come to a successful end, just like the Sharaf Foundation games.
The FA chairman encouraged the public to attend the upcoming event, emphasizing its importance in keeping female footballers active and providing opportunities for talent development. “I encourage all and sundry to come out in their numbers to support the upcoming event because it will go a long way to keep our female footballers active in the system and also pave way for some of them to climb to the highest level,” he added.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Togo stressed the importance of education, stating that “Sports moves with education.” He announced that the FA is willing to assist deserving students who excel in sports and academics by providing scholarship packages to further their education.
