Savannah Regional Minister has no interest in Damongo chieftaincy affairs- Savannah RCC

The Savannah Regional Co-ordinating Council has debunked allegations of interference against the Savannah Regional Minister in the raging Damongo chieftaincy dispute as well as taking side.

Accusing Mr. Saeed Muhazu Jibril of taking side with the opposing faction, Dolopewura Isaac Dramani Jamani on behalf of the Gembe family of the Dangepe gate at a press conference in Damongo on Sunday, April 21, 2024 said the Minister gave his full backing to the enskinment of one Chief Sakara from the Lermu gate as Kulasewura which title he said is not for his gate but the Dangepe’s gate.

The press conference spearheaded by the Dolopewura Isaac Dramani Jamani further claimed that the Minister as head of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) aided the exercise with a combined police and military protection.

The Gembe family of the Dangepe gate at the presser announced their support and loyalty to the governing New Patriotic Party.

But in a swift response, the Savannah RCC in a rejoinder signed by the Regional Co-ordinating Director and Secretary to REGSEC stated in categorical terms that the Minister has never meddled himself in the Damongo chieftaincy affairs, or any chieftaincy dispute anywhere in the Savannah Region.

“It must be stated emphatically that the Regional Minister has no interest in the Damongo chieftaincy affair, and therefore cannot use his position to support any faction against another”, part of the rejoinder stated.

The statement of rejoinder further explained that the presence of the police at the function was based on the intelligence gathered by the security, and which was necessary to be acted upon to protect life and property and not as alleged by the Gembe family of the Dangepe gate.

It wondered why anybody will complain about police protection for only one person and accuse the Regional Minister of taking sides when the police were present throughout all the five enskinments which took place at the same function.

It furthered that because there was no formal invitation to REGSEC concerning the enskinment, when the issue came up for discussion at a meeting of REGSEC on Wednesday, 17 April, 2024 the decision arrived at was that, all the security agencies should be on the lookout and ready for any disturbances that may occasion by the event.
