Wasipe Traditional Council Holds Maiden Traditional Council Meeting with a call for Peace.

President of the Wasipe Traditional Council, Wasipewura Mumuni Yakubu Anyami Kabasagya has organized the maiden ordinary traditional council meeting for the council.

The meeting was held at the North Gonja District Assembly conference hall on Thursday 28th March, 2024 and was presided over by Yazoriwura Adam Mahama on behalf of the Wasipewura.

The meeting was moderated by the Registrar of the Savannah Region House of Chiefs, Mr. Abutu Kapori who doubles as the Ag. Registrar for the Wasipe Traditional Council in waiting for a substantive Registrar who will be later posted to the council by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

The Wasipe Traditional Council is part of the four new traditional Councils created in the Savannah Region by the ministry of chieftaincy and religious affairs a year ago.

After its creation and inauguration on 27th January, 2023, this is the first time the council is seating for a traditional council meeting to deliberate and discuss issues concerning the development of the Wasipe Traditional Council.

In a welcome address which was read on his behalf by his secretary, the Paramount Chief of the Wasipe Traditional Area and President of the Council, Wasipewura Mumuni Yakubu Anyami Kabasagya made a clarion call on the council to focus on development and peace building and also concentrate on building impactful legacies in a serene environment.

According to him, now that they have their own Traditional Council, the Wasipe Traditional Council will be second to none if the council members bring their wisdom and expertise together and implement decisions and resolutions taken by the council.

He also said that the success of the council is dependable on peace, unity and collaborative efforts of the members of the Council and for that matter the Wasipe Traditional Council will experience appreciative development if the peace and unity that binds the people is protected, preserved and promoted in a shared interest.

The Wasipewura further said the relevant structures of the council plays a pivotal role in the development of Wasipe so he recommend with immediate effect that the structures of the council such as the Judicial committee, external relations committee, development and infrastructure committee, legal affairs committee among others should take clue of responsibility of duty to improve on the works of the council with strong structures in unity and their challenges shall be overcomed.

The members of the council discussed appropriate measures for the council’s growth and survival, including getting a registrar, opening an account for the Traditional Council, furnishing the office with furniture and fittings, raising funds for the council and creating subcommittees.

An officer for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), Madam Nimatu Siisu, who was also at the meeting represented a non-governmental organization known as MEDA on Greater Rural Opportunities for Women (GROW2) Project in her presentation indicated that their organization operates in three regions of Ghana, the savannah, Northern, and Upper West regions and are in 27 districts including the North Gonja District.

She said the primary goal of the GROW2 Project is to economically and socially empower small-scale rural farmers and entrepreneur aggregators in farming and business-related activities using the resources at their disposal.

Madam Nimatu pleaded with the traditional authorities to make lands available for farming so that the enrolled women under the GROW2 Project will benefit from it.
