Security Services Stage Joint Route March in Damongo to Assure Public Safety During Festive Season

Multiple security agencies in the Savannah Region conducted a joint route march through the principal streets of Damongo on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, to demonstrate their readiness to maintain peace and security during the festive season.

The exercise brought together personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Ambulance Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority in the Savannah Region.

Following the street march, security personnel assembled at the Damongo Town Astro Turf Park for a joint parade, where they were addressed by Savannah Regional Minister Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe Esq., in his capacity as Chairman of the Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

Lt. Col. Peter Afreh, Commander of the 155 Armoured Regiment, clarified the purpose of the exercise, emphasizing that it was not intended to intimidate residents but rather to assure the public of the security services’ commitment to their safety.

“We are always there to serve them and ensure a crime-free environment for the festivities and beyond,” he stated, calling on security personnel to cooperate and deliver the best service to civilians.

In his address, Hon. Be-Awuribe commended the security agencies for their crucial role in restoring peace following the recent Gbeniyiri ethnic conflict between Gonjas and Brifors over a land dispute in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.

The Regional Minister urged civilians to cooperate with security personnel while cautioning the uniformed officers to conduct themselves professionally and avoid abusing their powers.

Also present at the event were Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, Municipal Chief Executive for West Gonja Municipal, and the Savannah Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
