In view of consolidating the democracy of Ghana, the Ghana Anti-Corruption Collation (GACC) with funding from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has called on the youth and the public at large to play an active role as the country prepare for her 2024 general elections, amidst allegations of electoral corruption such as vote buying, vote selling, underage registration, underage voting, vote tempering among other things. These acts calls for pragmatic measures to safeguard the democratic process and ensure free, fair and transparent election.

Speaking to first-time voters and minors in some basic and second cycle institutions including; the St. Peter’s, St. John’s and D/A Junior High Schools at Tuna and the St. Cyprian Minor Seminary Senior High School at Sawla all in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Savannah region on electoral corruption, whistle blowing and the importance of upholding Ghana’s electoral integrity to mark this year’s African Union Anti-Corruption Day which falls on July 11, a tutor at the Tuna Senior High Technical School, Mr Nyonyone Ewald called on the youth not to allow themselves to be used by unscrupulous politicians to involve in illegal interference with electioneering processes to manipulate the outcome of elections for their political advantage.

He reminded the youth that, engaging in such electoral corruption could attract sanctions, including fines and imprisonment between 5 years and 10 years.
Electoral corruption according to Mr. Nyonyone leads to expensive elections as candidates varying for political power are willing to indulge in acts such as spending money lavishly and when they come to power, they engage in all forms of corruption to recoup their lost money.

He therefore called on the youth to take a bold stand against corruption, challenging them to show patriotism and report all electoral-related corruption to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on 0800-000-700 or visit www.osp.gov.gbc
