NACOC Destroys Seized Narcotics in Savannah Region

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) conducted a public destruction of illicit drugs and illegal substances seized during recent operations in the Savannah Region, following the conviction of six individuals by the Damongo Circuit Court.

The seized narcotics were confiscated during joint enforcement operations conducted by the Ghana Police Service and NACOC, representing a significant step in ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region.

The Damongo Circuit Court handed down convictions to all six defendants, imposing fines of at least 500 penalty units on each individual.

Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe announced that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has stepped up anti-drug operations throughout the region, declaring a zero-tolerance policy toward illicit drug use.

“This represents just one component of the comprehensive campaign we have undertaken with utmost seriousness,” Be-Awuribe told media representatives. “We are pleased to see the courts imposing these sanctions and ordering the destruction of these harmful substances.”

Savannah Regional Commander of NACOC, Madam Rashida Ewuntomah, highlighted plans to establish district and municipal offices across the region as part of a broader strategy to strengthen drug enforcement capabilities.

“We anticipate this expansion will significantly improve our effectiveness and operational strength,” Ewuntomah explained. “The presence of officers in these districts will provide us with immediate intelligence and firsthand information. While we await these developments, we remain committed to our current efforts and will continue working diligently to bring offenders to justice.”

The drug destruction ceremony underscores the government’s commitment to eliminating the circulation of illegal substances and protecting communities from the harmful effects of drug trafficking and abuse.
