Gone Are The Days Of Conquest And Land Ownership. Today, Our Focus Must Shift Towards Inclusion And Collaboration – Kpembewura.

Kpembewura Banbange Ndefuso IV, Paramount Chief of Kpembe Traditional Area has call on Gonjas and Nchumurus to embrace and recommit themselves to the principles of brotherhood, understanding and reconciliation.

According to him, gone are the days of conquest and land ownership. Today, the focus must shift towards inclusion and collaboration, as they strive to strengthen social cohesion for peaceful coexistence”.

Kpembewura was delivering a speech at the 54th annual congress of Nchumurus which was held at Lonto on the 6th – 10th of March, 2024 on the theme; “Strengthening Our Culture and Education for Accelerated Development – The Role of the Nchumuru Chiefs and Elders,”.

In his speech, Kpembewura said the occasion is a great one first in the supreme interest of inter-ethnic reconciliatory dialogue between the Gonjas and Nchumurus and second, to pursue development agenda.

He added that the historical ties between Gonjas and Nchumurus run deep, woven with threads of brotherhood and shared experiences.

“For centuries, we have peacefully co-existed as close brothers, nurturing a relationship built on mutual respect and understanding.” Kpembewura said.

The Kpembewura also said that they cannot deny the presence of conflicts that have marred their history but he was quick to add that they must view these conflicts not as scars of division, but as lessons learned in their journey towards reconciliation and unity.

According to him it is imperative that they acknowledge these challenges and strive to mend the bonds that bind them together because it is in unity, not division, that their strength and prominence lie, especially when standing alongside bigger and globally recognized ethnic groups.

Kpembewura further added that they must remind themselves that regional demarcations are mere political and administrative conveniences, not true boundaries of their lands and that Gonjas and Nchumurus must remain as one people, united by their shared heritage and traditional boundaries.

He said their chieftaincy structures are well-established and documented in Ghana, and thus provide a clear pathway to elevation and recognition, guiding them towards a future of unity and cohesion.

Kpembewura said the theme of the program resonates deeply with their collective aspirations and that quality education indeed, holds the key to unlocking the doors of progress and prosperity for communities, therefore, it is no doubt the antibiotic to the poverty disease. Which implies that It is thus very important they work closely and collectively together to secure a peaceful, united, safe and prosperous, future for the next generation.

“As a people of northern extraction, we face immense challenges of poverty and deprivation. Yet, let us not succumb or despair, but instead, let us harness the power of our unity and rich culture to champion the cause of development. Now is the time to stand together, not just for ourselves, but for the generations that will inherit the legacy of our actions”. The Kpembewura said.
