Farmer Alleges Unfair Distribution of SADEP Donated Fertilizer in Damongo

A farmer from Atributo, a suburb of Damongo, has lodged a formal complaint with Spear FM news alleging he was denied fertilizer that was meant to be distributed to farmers in the area by an NGO.

Mr. John B. Siriki claims that despite being called to collect fertilizer donated by the Savannah Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (SADEP), he was turned away and has not received the agricultural inputs months later.

According to Mr. Siriki, he received a call on August 28, 2025, from agricultural officers instructing him to arrive by 8:00 AM to collect his allocated fertilizer. He arrived at 8:30 AM and waited until approximately 9:30-10:00 AM, only to be told there were issues with the list of names.

“They told me the names have jammed up and that they were sorting out the names,” Mr. Siriki recounted. After contacting Mr. Awunyo Nathaniel, the Agricultural Sector Representative for Atributo, he was advised to return home while the names were sorted out and was promised he would receive his fertilizer allocation.

However, nearly three months later, Mr. Siriki says he is still waiting. When he followed up two weeks after the initial incident, he was informed the fertilizer had not yet arrived and would be distributed in batches.

Mr. Siriki also claims he is not alone in this predicament. He alleges that other farmers were similarly called and turned away, while some who did receive compound fertilizer were denied urea.

“I’m not alone, some were called the same way and were also turned away and those who also got the fertilizer were denied the urea. Agric Officer took our fertilizer and we need it,” he stated.

SADEP is a project aimed at ensuring national food and nutrition security, creating employment, and contributing to industrialization in Ghana’s savannah regions. The project targets at least 50,000 beneficiaries and focuses on climate-resilient production of maize, rice, and soybean.

Meanwhile the West Gonja Municipal Agric Director Alhaji Mumuni Ibrahim debunked the claims made by Mr Siriki.

In an interview on Spear FM’s “This is Savannah Super Morning Show” Alhaji Mumuni Ibrahim, said all fertilizers that were meant for farmers in the West Gonja Municipality has been duly distributed.
