Damongo: Two Young Men Arrested for Scamming Savannah Regional Minister

Two young men from Nalerigu in the North East Region have been apprehended by the Savannah Regional Police Command for allegedly scamming the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Biawurbi Salisu. The suspects, who impersonated the overlord of the Mamprugu traditional area, Nayir Mahami Abdulai Sherigah, reportedly used the Nayiri’s name and voice in a phone conversation to appeal for support from the minister.

The minister, trusting the authenticity of the request, hosted the suspects in Damongo and even covered their expenses, including accommodation in Accra, for a purported engagement. However, their scheme unraveled when they presented a suspicious concoction, claiming it was meant to “fortify” the minister. The minister’s suspicion led to their swift arrest by security personnel.

According to sources, this is not the first time the suspects have engaged in such deceitful activities. They allegedly scammed past ministers, including the current North East Regional Minister and high-profile individuals in the current administration, using the Nayiri’s name.

The suspects are currently in police custody, undergoing interrogation. This incident serves as a reminder to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of such requests, especially those involving influential figures.
