Savannah Farmers Brigade Inaugurates Buipe Chapter

The Savannah Farmers Brigade, founded by Jira Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II in 2022, has inaugurated its Buipe Chapter in the Central Gonja District. The ceremony took place on November 15, 2025, at the Buipequra Chinchanko II Palace.

‎In his welcome speech, the Savannah Regional and Buipe Branch Chairman, Dabanpewura Seidu Abdul-Fatawu, expressed gratitude to the founder and Chief Patron, Jira Buipewura, and all the farmers of Buipe. He stated that the inauguration marked a monumental step in bringing the vision of the Savannah Farmers Brigade directly to the grassroots.



‎”We are gathered here today for a historic and joyous occasion: the official inauguration of the Buipe Branch of the Savannah Farmers Brigade. This is not just an administrative ceremony; it is the planting of a new seed of hope, collaboration, and progress to bring the vision of the Savannah Farmers Brigade directly to the grassroots,” he said.


‎The chairman highlighted that the brigade aims to unify farmers to modernize their age-old practices and create a collective force to champion development and ensure food security. The Buipe Chapter will serve as a hub for training, capacity building, and access to resources and information.

‎The District Chief Executive, Hon. Mahama Fiseini, representing the Savannah Regional Minister and the Member of Parliament for the area and Minister for Energy and Green Transition, emphasized the government’s commitment to agriculture. “The government is committed to supporting farmers through policies like ‘Feed Ghana’ and ‘Nkuko Nkitunkiti,’ which aim to ease farmers’ burdens and prevent post-harvest losses,” he said. “We will soon provide fertilizers to registered farmers and support the brigade with machinery and farm inputs.”

The Board Chairman of the Savannah Farmers Brigade, Nnaa Gbanpewaa Kooru, assured members of support from the government and partners, including machinery and farm inputs. “We are committed to working with the government and partners to ensure the success of our farmers,” he said. “We will provide training, capacity building, and access to resources and information to support our farmers.”

‎Speakers at the occasion included the Central Gonja District Commanders of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Services, and officials of the EPA. The Country Director of Our Planet, Our Future, also spoke at the occasion, highlighting the importance of environmental sustainability in agriculture.

‎The occasion was graced by prominent chiefs, government officials, farmers, and stakeholders, including the Kagbapewura of Old Buipe, Queen Mother, market queens, crop farmers, livestock farmers, Fulani herdsmen, and traders. The Buipewura, Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area and Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, promised a brighter future for the brigade.

‎The event was also attended by the District Commander of Ghana Immigration Service, the District Commander of Ghana Armed Forces, the District Commander of Ghana Police Service, the District Commander of Ghana National Fire Service, the District Commander of Ghana National Ambulance Service, the Manager of Agriculture Development Bank, the Manager of Kintampo Rural Bank, the Manager of Abosomankotere Cooperative Credit Union, the Chairman of Cattle Dealers Association, the Chairman of Yam & Tuber Sellers Association, the Chairperson of Grain Sellers Association, the Chairperson of Grain Millers Association, the Chairman of GPRTU of TUC, Buipe, and a representative from the Upper West Region.

‎After the program, the board of directors briefed Jira Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II on the proceedings and progress of the brigade. The Buipewura expressed his delight and assured the brigade of his continued support. “I am pleased with the progress made so far, and I assure you of my continued support. Together, we will achieve food security and prosperity for our people,” he said.

The inauguration ceremony marked a significant milestone in the efforts to promote agriculture and food security in the region.‎
