Bole/Savannah Region: Parishioners Accuse Parish Priest of Discrimination, Nepotism Ethnocentrism among Others

In a shocking revelation, a concerned parishioner of the Martyrs of Uganda Parish, located in Bole, Savannah Region, has written to the church authorities, seeking clarity on the ownership and management of the Br. Keith Memorial Academy, a school established in 2023. The parish, which is the largest in the region after St. Anne’s Cathedral Parish, has been rocked by allegations of opacity in the management of the school.

The letter, addressed to Rev. Fr. Lazarus, raises several questions about the school’s operations, including its financial status, management board, and registration. According to sources, the parishioner, Hassan Butewufa Boniface, is seeking answers to several concerns, including whether the school is owned by the parish, individuals within the parish, or is it a private property on parish land.

The letter also queries the school’s vision and mission, its registration with the Registrar General’s Department, and licensing by the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA). The concerns raised by Boniface are not limited to the school’s operations. He has also highlighted issues of discrimination, tribalism, and ethnocentrism within the church and its associated institutions, calling on the authorities to take proactive steps to address these issues.

The letter has sparked a heated debate within the parish, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the management of the school. “As a parish, we have a right to know how our resources are being utilized,” said a parishioner, who wished to remain anonymous. “We need to ensure that our church is not being used as a tool for personal gain, but rather as a beacon of hope and love for all.”

Rev. Fr. Lazarus is yet to respond to the allegations, but sources close to him say that he is taking the matter seriously and will address the concerns raised by Boniface in due course.

The Br. Keith Memorial Academy is one of several schools established by the Martyrs of Uganda Parish in recent years, as part of its mission to provide quality education to the underprivileged.

As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: the parishioners of Martyrs of Uganda Parish are demanding transparency and accountability from their church leaders, and they will not rest until their concerns are addressed.
