Today, 18th of March, 2024, at around 1:30 PM, fire guts the kindergarten block of Falahiyat E/A school in Damongo.
However, before the outbreak pupils of this block had closed at around 12:00 noon.
Giving an account of the Incident, the assembly member for the Dass electoral area, Mr. Sumaila Hafiz Kamara said it’s sad to see this happen.
Mr. Hafiz Kamara applauded residents around the Falahiyat school saying “They have demonstrated their patriotism by coming together to put out the fire before the Fire service officials could arrive”.
He added that immediately after the news reached him, he bemoaned how the fire tenders could reach the school because lack of access roads has been a major problem in the community.
Mr. Kamara added that firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service reached the scene at the time when residence had put out the fire, saying that the fire tender couldn’t reach the destination because there is no accessible roads to the school.
Meanwhile, the residents, teachers, and officials from the Ghana National Fire Service yet could not tell the cause of the fire.
According to the assembly member, the fire started in the store room of the KG 2 classroom. “officials from the Ghana National Fire Service said sometimes, lack of ventilation could spark fire accessing the items in the store room but this could not be the case because windows and doors of the storeroom is left open, so as it stands no one can tell the cause of the fire” he added.
Mr. Hafiz said during his first time engagement with electorate at this same venue, he bemoan the lack of access to roads in case of emergency such as this. He promised to work tirelessly with the West Gonja Municipal Assembly (WGMA) to create accesible roads in the community to prevent further unfortunate incidents.
He therefore appealed for support for the school calling on all community members and on all stakeholders.
