The youth chief of Damongo, Lukman Salifu Soldier (Nyiribiwura), has identified the MP for Damongo Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor, as the best candidate from Gonjaland to succeed President John Dramani Mahama when he retires from active politics.
Speaking at a meeting of Gonjalanders in Accra, Ashiamah on Sunday, November 30, 2025, the youth chief urged all residents of Savannah Region and Gonjaland to rally behind the Damongo MP.
“If there is anyone that will best replace John Dramani Mahama in the interest of Gonjaland (Ngbanye) then that person is Hon. Lawyer Abu Jinapor,” Lukman Salifu Soldier declared.
The endorsement has shocked many observers, as the Damongo Nyiribiwura was previously known as a vocal critic of the MP and had actively campaigned against him.
According to Lukman Salifu Soldier, God brought Lawyer Abu Jinapor to Damongo and the entire Gonjaland for development purposes. He described the MP as a divine servant through whom God wants to bless the community.
“If God wants to bless any community, he passes it through a servant, so that servant is Abu Jinapor who is the MP for Damongo Constituency,” the youth chief stated.
He praised Abu Jinapor’s love for Gonjaland, asserting that the MP “will never turn his back on Gonjas in any day.”
Lukman Salifu Soldier appealed to the people of Savannah Region and Gonjaland to “jealously protect” Abu Jinapor, describing him as holding a brighter future for the area. He called on all Gonjalanders to thank God for having such leadership in the Damongo Constituency.
The dramatic shift in position by the former critic who once publicly played dirty politics against Abu Jinapor has sparked widespread discussion among political watchers in the region.
