TBA and S4S to Operationalize Cassava and Maize Processing Unit in Achubunyor Soon

The Better Africa (TBA) in collaboration with Science for Societies (S4S) has established a state-of-the-art cassava and maize processing model unit in Achubunyor, near Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality of Savannah Region.

The facility, which will process cassava and maize into starch and value-added products such as flour, chips, gari, and grits, is expected to reduce post-harvest losses in the West Gonja Municipality.

According to Mr. Yussif Ewuntomah Rayanu, an agric extension officer from the West Gonja Municipal MOFA office, the project will train 15 women from Achubunyor, who will form a cooperative to operate the processing center. The project will also establish purchasing centers across various communities in the municipality to provide a ready market for cassava and maize farmers.

Alhassan Dramundu Latifa, one of the women selected to operate the processing center, expressed her gratitude to TBA and S4S, stating that the project will empower women in the area to become entrepreneurs, alleviating poverty in the community.

The Chief of Achubunyor, Achubunyorwura Kutungi, also thanked TBA and S4S for choosing to establish the facility in his community, benefiting women in the community and beyond.

The collaboration between TBA and S4S aims to transform landless women farmers into entrepreneurs by building climate-clean micro-food processing units. This initiative is part of TBA’s mission to drive socio-economic development in Ghana and other AfCFTA member countries.
