The Savannah Regional Minister, Hon Saeed Muhazu Jibril, has on Friday November 15 hosted the media at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council (SRCC) to boost community engagement and awareness about the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project. A project that aims to foster collaboration and resilience in border-zone communities vulnerable to conflicts and climate risks.
Hon. Jibril emphasized the crucial role of media in shaping public perceptions and ensuring citizens are well-informed about the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project’s objectives. He urged journalists and technical persons to allocate time on their media outlets for in-depth discussions on the project, highlighting its significance in fostering community engagement and awareness.
According to the Minister, the Savannah Region has witnessed significant improvements thanks to the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, which has invested heavily in crucial sectors that directly enhance the wellbeing of residents in it’s recent four catchment districts: Bole Municipality, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba (STK) District, North Gonja District, and Northeast Gonja District.
The Savannah Region has benefited significantly from the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, with a total of 39 projects implemented. These projects include 7 schools, 7 health facilities, 4 rural markets, 2 rural roads and culverts, 12 Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities, 2 social centers, 4 youth engagement activities and 1 earth dam to support irrigation and agriculture
He added that the SOCO project has earned the full support of the Ghanaian government, with President Nana Akufo Addo leading the charge. With a testament to the project’s impressive progress, the government has considered additional funding to expand its reach. The extra resources will enable the project to extend its benefits to the remaining three districts in the region, further enhancing regional collaboration, socio-economic resilience, and climate resilience in border-zone communities.
The SOCO project stands as a beacon for improving regional collaboration and enhancing socio-economic and climate resilience in the targeted northern regions of Gulf of Guinea countries.
