Kapori Takes Over New Office as Registrar of Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Inuagurates Zuarungu Traditional Council.

Mr. Abutu Kapori the immediate past Registrar of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs has officially taken over as the Registrar of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs and as part of his duties as the registrar of the house, Kapori facilitated the inauguration of the Zuarungu Traditional Council on Thursday 24th October, 2024.

The Zuarungu Traditional Council was officially inaugurated by the Director of Chieftaincy Division at the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mr. Baafi Nsiah on behalf of the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Hon Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
The inauguration took place at the forecourt of the Bolgatanga East District Assembly.

In a welcome address, the Paramount Chief of Zuarungu Traditional Area Naba Afeghra III expressed his gratitude on behalf of the people of the area to the minister of chieftaincy and religious affairs for creating the traditional council which according to him completes his status as the Paramount Chief and president of the Zuarungu Traditional Council.

Nana Afeghra said since his enskinment as Paramount Chief of Zuarungu on 24th May 2017 and gazetted on 10th August 2018, the same year the Bolgatanga East District was created and subsequently sworn in as a member of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs on 19th August 2020, he believes the inauguration will give him the legal backing as president of the Traditional Council to administer the affairs of the traditional community according to customs and traditions.

Naba Afeghra III also added that without a secretariat, the Council cannot function effectively hence he thanked the District Assembly for giving them an office space to House the traditional council.

Naba Afeghra siezed the opportunity to caution any actors who may engage in acts of violence that would disrupt the peace of the area before, during and after the December 7th 2024 general elections.

He also called on his colleagues members of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs to close ranks and work together for the progress of the house and the Upper East Region as a whole and that they can’t achieve any meaningful progress if members of the house are not united. 

The Director of Chieftaincy Division of the the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mr. Baafi Nsiah who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs whilst congratulating Naba Afeghra, added that there are a lot more work to be done, even as they strive collectively to resolve chieftaincy matters and expand their frontiers for development in the area.

According to mr Nsiah, the inauguration should be seen to integrate the people of the Traditional area especially the revered Chiefs to work hand in hand for endless development. Mr Nsiah further added that they should be able to see progress and unity among the people of Zuarungu the next time they visit the Council.

According to him, on their part, the Ministry would ensure the posting of staff either on temporal or permanent basis to help with the administration and assist the Council with logistics and that the Council would also benefit from the series of trainings and engagements lined up in the Ministries activities and programmes earmarked for this year – 2024.

Mr Nsiah assured the Chiefs and people of Zuarungu that special attention would be given to the Zuarungu Traditional Council to ensure its progress and sustenance.
