At a press conference held at the party’s regional office in Damongo on September 9, 2024, the Regional Communication Director R.A Jalil read the petition, signed by Regional Secretary Sualisu Bi-Awurbi Esq.

The petition highlights the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates’ in the region’s unauthorized use of the DRIP equipments for political campaigns, despite the program’s intention to distribute the equipment to MMDAs for use by all, regardless of political affiliation.

The NDC in Savannah region in the petition, demands that the Regional Minister takes immediate action to address the issue, including establishing clear guidelines for the use of DRIP equipment to prevent further politicization, ensuring the removing of political posters from the equipment to maintain their integrity, engaging key stakeholders, including opposition parties, in project execution to ensure inclusivity, and to ensure equal access to the equipments for all, including opposition leaders to promote fairness.

The petition emphasizes that the politicization of public resources compromises trust in government institutions and undermines their integrity.
“If no action is taken within three days of this petition, we (NDC) will respond in equal measure to protect the rights of the people and ensure good governance,” he said.
