The Honourable Assemblyman for the Canteen Electoral Area,
Ananpansah Bartholomew Abraham (AB), has officially commissioned and handed over a newly constructed standard Volleyball court to the Canteen Volleyball team. The ceremony, held on Friday, June 21, 2024, featured Volleyball games between St. Anne’s Schools and Canteen Schools.
In his address, the Assemblyman commended the teams for their excellent display of sportsmanship and thanked the Almighty God for seeing the project through to completion. He also expressed his gratitude to World Vision for funding the project from start to finish.
The Assemblyman acknowledged that the project required three years of dedication, vision, commitment, hard work, resilience, selfless love for the community, and pure sacrifice to bring to reality. He commended the effort of his dedicated working team, Unit Committee Members, and community volunteers for standing firm by him throughout the project.
The Assemblyman pledged his continuous commitment to developing sports in the electoral area and beyond, disclosing that plans are underway to complete the process for a registered division three team in Canteen. He highlighted his records in local sports development, including the Annual Assemblyman Gala Games, numerous donations of sports kits to the Canteen team and schools in the area, and the effort to raise a female team.
All participating teams received prizes, including standard footballs, assorted drinks, and exercise books. The Assemblyman also donated a Volleyball net and Volleyball to the team and handed over a standard football to the Canteen team to aid their training towards the upcoming Juvenile games. Additionally, he handed over a grass mowing machine to the team to ensure regular maintenance of the Canteen park.
The representative of the Chief of Canteen and former Assemblyman for the area, Honourable Adam Mohammed Gadafi Kramonday, conveyed the gratitude of the Canteen Wura to the Assemblyman for his wonderful development initiatives.
The West Gonja municipal Football Association Chairman, Mr. Saaka Iddrisu (TOGO), praised the initiative, describing it as worth emulating.
Mr. TOGO emphasized the importance of combining sports and education, noting that they go hand in hand. He encouraged the students to take their studies seriously, as both sports and education are essential for living a healthy and wealthy life in the community.
