The Executive Secretary to the MD, Ghana Water Limited (GWL) held a press conference to set the records straight on the ongoing debate surrounding the “Damongo Alternative Water Supply Project” which he described as “Artesian Well project in Broto”. The conference was called to respond to claims made by some NPP Constituency Executives regarding the project’s funding, completion, and failure to commissioning it.
According to Isifu Seidu Kudus Gbeadese, the NPP executives claims are riddled with inaccuracies and falsehoods. Gbeadese stated that the project is being fully funded by Ghana Water Limited, contrary to claims of a loan facility from EXIM BANK of Ghana.

“The project is not being funded by a loan facility from EXIM BANK of Ghana. Instead, the project is being fully funded by Ghana Water Limited,” Gbeadese emphasized. “GWL has paid GHC 4 million out of the total project cost of approximately GHC 17 million as of December 2021. The current Managing Director, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu Garlus, has also approved an additional payment of GHC 6.2 million, which is yet to mature.”
Gbeadese also clarified that Hon. Abu Jinapor, the MP for Damongo, had no involvement in the project’s planning or execution. “The project was solely initiated by Ghana Water Limited under the leadership of Dr. Clifford Braimah. Hon. Jinapor’s accumulated Common Fund has not contributed a dime to the project’s execution,” he said.
He further revealed that the project remains less than 80% complete, contrary to claims of its completion and readiness for commissioning. “The current Managing Director, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, is committed to completing the project and has instructed the consultant and contractor to increase the capacity of the Artesian Well to enhance its daily yield,” Gbeadese stated.

Gbeadese emphasized that the Government of H.E John Dramani Mahama and Ghana Water Limited are committed to delivering a one-stop, state-of-the-art water project for the Damongo Constituency and Gonjaland at large. “The Artesian Well in Broto is merely an immediate and sustainable supplemental intervention to address the perennial water challenges in the area,” he said.
In conclusion, Gbeadese urged Hon. Abu Jinapor and the NPP executives to come clean and admit that they have failed to deliver the Damongo water project. “The people of Damongo and Gonjaland deserve better, and we are committed to providing them with a reliable and sustainable water supply,” he said.
