Savannah Region Queen Mothers’ Association Holds Stakeholder Dialogue On Social Cohension And Peaceful Coexistence For Fulbe Headers

0

Yesterday Tuesday April 16, 2024 the Savannah Region Queen Mothers’ Association ( SRQMA) in partnership with Star Ghana Foundation held a stakeholder dialogue on social cohension and peaceful coexistence for Fulbe headers, farmers, women, youth and vulnerable groups in the Savannah region.

The dialogue took place at the Eco-Club House in Damongo to address the challenges affecting the multi tribe settlers, especially amongst the indigenes, the Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the Savannah region.

Presesnt at the dialogue were some chiefs and queen mothers, some heads of departments, Muslim and Christian clergy, the Fulbe community, and targeted groups drawn from East Gonja Municipal, North Gonja District, and the West Gonja Municipal Assemblies.

In a welcome address, the president of SRQMA, Dr. Hajia Kansawurche Veronica Bukari said there is the need to engage in dialogue sessions to enhance peaceful co-existence andj social cohesion since they can not pretend that all is well within the Savannah region when there is a lot of migration and series of conflicts around Ghana and the neighboring countries.

She mentioned that Fulbe herder-farmer disputes, high illiteracy rates, famine and diseases, scramble for resources, unemployment, breakdown of social capital, and lack of alternative sources of livelihoods are some of the challenges they have started to address few months ago supported by the Star Ghana foundation trying to fill the gap of advocacy of inclusion and bring about ways to peaceful coexist and cohesion amongst Fulbes women, youth and other vulnerable groups in Savannah Region.

She made reference to the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs striving to get a roadmap towards solving Fulbe herder and Farmer conflicts and it is found that most times, the youth, the women and other vulnerable groups are left out in the dialogues, meanwhile, these important group engagement would foster the needed peace since it is the youth that go to the bush with the animals and create the problems whiles their fathers are resting at home or market places.

She added that thesej children deny their animals straying into peoples farms and destroying yields.

On the other hand, Kansawurche said that Some farmers also spread falsehood as soon as they see cattle feet around their farms which is creating problems at all times.

She revealed that women play a good role in encouraging men to do right things, therefore, women should be included in decision making process at the Regional House of Chiefs level to contribute to strategies to find an amicable solution to the Fulbe farmer conflict in Savannah Region.

Kansawurche used the opportunity to encourage the Fulbes to make themselves available for dialogue anytime the need arises and also entreated the fulbe community to send their children to school, and also dispel their perception of stigma, discrimination and stereotyping.

Speaking during the dialogue, the Project Officer for Star Ghana Foundation, Madam Anita Asare Awuku says that the Star Ghana Foundation is supporting the Savannah Region Queen Mothers’ Association under the Actions for Voice, Influence and Inclusive Development (AVID) project.

She said that the project largely aims at improving access to social services for six groups, namely: persons with disability, rural farmers, the youth, the informal sector workers among others.

According to her, dialogue sessions has been organised to look at issues that have emerged from the implementation of activities by the Savannah Region Queen Mothers’ Association

Madam Anita noted that the action plan will be taken into effect after the meeting.

Several views on how to promote and maintain peaceful coexistence amongst the minor tribe settler groups in the Savannah region, notbly, the Fulbe communities and the daily brouhaha between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers were discussed thoroughly.

Former Assembly Man for Yipala/Nabori Electoral Area Hon. Rahman makes Tractors Available for farmers in Damongo

0

The former assembly member for Yipala/Nabori electoral area, Hon. Rahman as usual, have made some tractors available to the people of Damongo and it enclave to have accessible, quality and affordable tractor services .

This initiative by the Honourable member started since 2016 when he was doing his “listening to the people tour” within the electoral area during which the concern of tractor accessibility became topical issue. He took the matter up by linking up with friends and dealers of tractors in Tamale to ensure that the services of tractors are brought to the doorsteps of the people. This “tractor accessibility project” started with two and gradually increased to five in number .

Before then, the search for tractor to plough was very tough and dramatic, which people would have to resort to exchanges to be able to win a tractor which by chance came into the community.

This spectacle often caused some farmers to farm late due to the scarcity of tractors resulting to low yields.

Today, the story is different, for the intervention by the Honourable former assembly member.

Early this year his usual quality and affordable tractors
again are available for the accessibility of everyone at a cheaper price contrary to the cost of accessing others.

Currently, there are five tractors available and ready for deployment. Interested farmers can easily link up with HON.RAHMAN to be served.

Gossip within the quarters of the former Hon. Member indicates plans to increase the number of tractors to ten (10) through a different link to help reduce the pressure within Damongo Municipality

In his recent engagement with some indigenes of the Damongo çonstituency, he pledge to resolve the difficulty in access to quality tractor services within Damongo but geared to leave a positive legacy, worthy of emulation by serving and not to be served.

Planting For Food and Jobs is a bold step forward in government’s mission to empower farmers and enhance agricultural productivity – Savannah Regional Minister

The Savannah Regional Coordinating Council in collaboration with the Regional Department of Agriculture has held a regional stakeholder durber today, Tuesday 9th April, 2024 to highlight the second phase of the planting for food and jobs program

The second phase of the planting for food and jobs program has been rolled out following the national launch which took place on 11th March 2024, registration exercise including farmers and their institutions is currently ongoing across the country in all regions and districts.

At the stakeholder sensitization durber, the savannah regional minister, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibril said the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJs) phase 2.0 is more than just providing financial assistance to farmers but about investing in the future of agriculture in the region and the nation diversly.

According to him, the PFJs program has been a beacon of hope, a testament to commitment to revitalizing the agricultural sector and ensuring food security for the nation and as the regional minister, Hon. Muhazu threw more light on the PFJs phase 2.0 and said it is a new era of progress and prosperity for farmers and the nation as a whole.

He continued that the PFJs represents a bold step forward in government’s mission to empower farmers and enhance agricultural productivity and therefore, building upon the success of the phase 2.0, whereas, the initiative is designed to further bolster efforts by providing inputs and access to credit facilities to interested farmers, enabling them to access the resources they need to thrive and succeed.

He noted that access to credit facilities is often a barrier for many farmers, particularly smallholder farmers who form the backbone of the agricultural sector and by providing them with the necessary inputs upfront and allowing them to pay back after cultivation, it’s not only shunning the obstacles but also fostering a culture of entrepreneurship within the farming communities.

The minister called upon all stakeholders, government agencies, traditional authorities, agricultural organizations, financial institutions, private sector partners, and most importantly the farmers to put in collective efforts and unwavering determination so that the goal for PFJs phase 2.0 will exceed expections.

NDC National Women Organizer Inaugurates The Young Women Wing In Savannah Region.

The National Women Organizer for the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw has on Sunday 7th April 2024 inaugurated the NDC Young Women Wing (YWW), two women groups namely Lordina ladies and the J&J ladies in the Savannah Region.

In an open engagement with market women and the party’s women wing at the Damongo lorry station, the National Women Organizer lamented how the party’s defeat in the previous elections was attributed to the formation of minor groups within the NDC party according to report and this necessitated the party’s decision to merge such groups.

Dr. Bissiw also lamented the deceit and lies of the Nana Adoo-Bawumia led government making cost of living unbearable for the ordinary Ghanaian most especially women.

“We women are into trading, we buy from far to come and sell but now we cannot engage in such trades due to high fuel prices. You will definitely run at lost if you go to purchase from the southern part of the country to come and sell” she added.

“Do your brother, His excellency John Dramani Mahama a great honour by voting massively for him and Hon. Adam Mutawakilu Garlus in the coming elections to rescue you from a member of parliament who comes to give you 20ghc wich cannot buy you a sanitary pad from now to your menopause yet, claiming to be the president’s darling boy”.

She also added that the former president John Dramani shall come with a policy to support women in trading which is the “The love fund” adding that she is therefore urging each member of the Young Women Wing and Adult Women Wing to adapt 15 and 10 new voters respectively right from the upcoming voters registration excercise till the NDC is declared winners in the upcoming general elections, and her wing will reward them if they work harder.

Highlighting some legacies of John Dramani Mahama, Hannah Bissiw said it is necessary to state in this holy month of Ramadan that the former president has muslims at heart than H.E Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, saying it is the former president who upgraded the Tamale airport to an international airport making it easy for muslim pilgrims to embark on one of the mandatory pillars of Islam which is hajj.

“I doubt if Vice president Bawumia is a real Alhaji, he is a fake Alhaji because under his watch as a muslim, pilgrims can no longer go to hajj because of the shocking rise in fares”.

Meanwhile, she paid a courtesy visit to the Overlord of the Gonja kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale(I) at his palace and presented 10 bags of rice and an undisclosed amount of cash ahead of the Eid-ul-fitr celebrations.

Dr. Bissiw was accompanied by the regional women organizers for the Savannah and Northeast regions, savannah region constituency women organizers, Savannah regional Organizer, Hon Sorku K. Yahuza and the Damongo constituency chairman and executives and party faithfuls and sympathizers.
