West Gonja Municipal Assembly Presents Dual Desk to 19 Private Schools in the Municipality.

The West Gonja Municipal Assembly as part of its efforts to improve education in the municipality has presented dual desks to nineteen (19) private schools in the Municipality.

This move according to the Honourable MCE for West Gonja Karim Musah Kusubari will enhance teaching and learning in the private schools.

Speaking to Spear FM at the forecourt of the office of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly where the presentation and the distribution of the dual desks was done, Hon Musah Kusubari said the West Gonja Municipal Assembly earlier recieved about 1,500 dual desks from the National Development Authority (NDA) through the office of the Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency which they distributed to public schools in the municipality.

The MCE added that even though private schools are owned by private individuals, they serve the general public therefore there is the need for government help improve education at the private sector.

Privata Schools that benefited include Hope for life school complex, Newlife Preparatory School, Bambaninye School Larabanga, ECG school complex, Mohammed Ameen School, Ewuntomah Excellency Academy, Redemption Academy, Holistic Mission School, Light House Phronesis School, Excell Academy, My-Gate School, Sir Martin’s memorial school, Happy Kids school, Smart Kids school, Larabanga Islamic school, Halal vision school, progressive ECE centre, Ayusuga Academy and Amazing Grace School.

Heads of these schools expressed gratitude to the West Gonja Municipal Assembly and promised to put the furniture to good use.

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS: Damongo Motoking Association Leads the Way in Environmental Clean-up

In a heartwarming display of civic responsibility, the Damongo Motoking Riders Association has embarked on a non-partisan voluntary mission to clean up our environment in Damongo.

This selfless initiative, undertaken  without any political affiliation or motivation, is a shining example of community spirit and dedication to the greater good.

The association’s latest effort saw them extend their kindness to the Damongo Health Centre, clearing surrounding bushes and desilting clogged gutters. This voluntary activity not only improves the aesthetic appeal of the area but also contributes to a healthier environment for patients, staff, and the community at large.

The Assemblyman for the Zongo/Langbanto electoral area Hon Nuhu Kantama Abdul Ganiyu who was impressed by their good works, made a passionate appeal to individuals, groups, and corporate agencies to support them with cleaning item and training needs.

According to the Hon Assembly person for Zongo-Langbonto, supporting this noble cause will promote a healthier environment for our community.

Naada Jinapor Foundation Donates Basic Drugs to Health Facilities in West Gonja Municipality.

Naada Jinapor Foundation has donated basic drugs to some selected health facilities in the west gonja municipality as part of the efforts of the foundation to improve health care delivery in the west gonja municipality.

Facilities that recieved these support include Larabanga Health Centre, Murugu Clinic, Mognori Clinic, Grupe Clinic and Kabanpe health center.

The drugs were recieved by the health workers of these health facilities together with the leaders of the communities.

The presentation was done on behalf of the wife of the Damongo MP by her secretary miss Janet Rhule together with the coordinator for the Naada Jinapor Foundation Hajia Ubeda Nurudeen, accompanied by Madam Seidu Rafia, Yussif Huziefa, miss Munira and Mr Abdeen Naada man.

In an interview with Spear FM after the donation, Hajia Ubeda said the CEO of Naada Jinapor Foundation Madam Naada Jinapor is concerned about the health and well-being of the people of West Gonja hence the support.

According to her, this is not the first time the Naada Jinapor Foundation is embarking on a project to improve health care delivery in the West Gonja Municipality.

She said the drugs includes pain killers, antibiotics, dewormers, basic medication for stomachache, ulcer, headache, cough, maleria and mild fever.

Hajia Ubeda further added that the Naada Jinapor Foundation has also procured anti snake venom in stock to cater for snake bites as the farming season gets to its peak.

The health workers together with community leadership who received the medicines expressed gratitude to the Naada Jinapor Foundation and pledged to use the them for the intended purpose.

Bagre Dam Spillage: Residents Residing Along Black and White Volta Lakes Urged to Move to Higher Grounds

Residents residing along the Black and White Volta Lakes have been urged to move to higher grounds ahead of the spillage of the Bagre Dam in neighboring Burkina Faso slated for Monday, August 19, 2024.

This admonishment was contained in a statement issued by the Northern Regional department of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

In the statement signed by the Northern Regional Director, Alhaji Abdallah Salifu disclosed that the Bagre Dam level as of August 16, was 234.23m as against the maximum spillage level of 235m.

The statement therefore, entreated residents residing along the twin Volta Lakes to devise precautionary measures to avoid being hit adversely by the spillage.

“This flood alert therefore is to inform the general public, the Communities along the White and Black Volta Lakes as well as our development partners to be on the alert, and to get all the communities who may be at risk to move to higher grounds, since the rivers will overflow its banks and some farms along the rivers will be flooded”.

It continued, “also, the natural habitat of reptiles will be disturbed and people should be careful along the rivers as the risk of snake bites is high during this period. The reptiles will also be struggling for survival as they will move upland, on debris and on top of trees along the rivers”.

It further asserted that the sole aim of directive is to ensure zero loss of lives and mitigate the impact on livelihoods.

Damongo: Woman robbed off motorcycle at gunpoint

A woman (name withheld) was on Saturday, August 17, 2024 robbed at gunpoint of her red Hajue-5 motorcycle with registration number M-21-CD 9821.

The incident occurred at around 20:30hrs at the Damongo Senior High School by two unidentifiable men who were wielding weapons.

Reports say the victim was attacked in her house whiles going about her domestic chores when the hardened criminal invaded her room and aimed the weapon at her threatening to kill her if she fails to cooperate.

They were reported to have demanded for the keys to her motorcycle and monies in her possession to which the victim reluctantly complied to protect her precious life.

Spearfm.com sources revealed that the bandits after carrying out the dastardly act rode off with the victim’s motorcycle into Alhassan-Kura, a suburb of Damongo.

Spear FM sources disclosed further that several checks were made for the suspects but they were not located.

Meanwhile, police in Damongo have commenced investigations into the matter after an official complaint was lodged.

Damongo Constituency: Work Begins On Electricity Expansion Project

Residents in some parts of the Damongo constituency are heaving a sigh of relief as work has commenced on an electricity expansion project to areas that are yet to be connected to the national grid. The areas include Azurekura 1, Azurekura 2, Attributo, Hangaline, Cathedral residential area Annex, and Jebee.

Aiming to connect the residential areas in the constituency to the national grid, the project is expected to bring development to the areas that were hitherto unserved with electricity.

The project which is expected to be completed before December will provide the various suburbs with electricity and free installation of meters.

The project is in addition to the extension of electricity to about 1,000 households by the Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor.

Vehicles loaded with materials for the project with the contractor have moved to the various areas for the commencement of the project.

Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor earlier explained that these projects are aimed at improving the lives of residents in his constituency. He added that the supply of electricity to the areas will contribute immensely to the socio-economic lives of residents.

“All we are seeking to do is to step up the quality of life here. Students in these areas can finally read and study at night. Parents can also do some business when the day loses its light. This is definitely a positive boost to the lives of residents here,” he remarked.

The MP vowed to do more to bring developmental projects to the people of the Damongo constituency to empower residents.

Farmers Worried Over Prolonged Drought in Damongo and its Environs

Farmers in Damongo the savannah regional capital have been experiencing an acute prolonged drought in the area.

Speaking to some Farmers in the area, they expressed shock and worry that over a month, there has not been a drop of rain in the municipality. As a result, over  hundreds of farmers laments over their huge investments

Eventhough  religious bodies in and around Damongo have offered endless prayers for God’s intervention, they are yet to see the rains.

In an interview on Spear FM, a Damongo based radio station, the MP for Damongo Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor sympathized with the farmers.

“I understand the frustration and challenges that come with drought during the farming season as a farmers son. As your representative, I want to assure you that we are working closely with the Government to provide the necessary support and relief.” He said.

The Mp retreated some immediate measures to mitigate the effects of the drought.

He announced that the Damongo Constituency Farmers Empowerment Program, initiated by him, will be reinforced to provide agri-inputs, which will restore hope to farmers in the constituency

However, he cautioned against human activities such as indiscrimate felling of trees, charcoal burning activities and more.

1,093 Famers Recieve Free Fertilizer in Damongo

Farmers numbering about 1,093 have received two bags of NPK Fertilizer, one bag of Nuria and hybrid maize seeds free of charge in the West Gonja Municipality.

These grant comes from the government in fulfilment of the Planting for Food and Jobs program.

Speaking to Spear FM at the distribution point at the Damongo Fertilizer Depot, the Municipal director of agriculture Alhaji Mumuni Ibrahim said the free fertilizer distribution is a grant from the government of Ghana to support farmers.

Alhaji Mumuni said farmers who are benefiting from the initiative are part of the first 200,000 farmers across the 261 MMDAs nationwide who registered through the Ghana Agric Platform with the support of agric extension officers.

According to him, there was no discrimination or manipulation of the system to suit a particular class of people.

The MCE for West Gonja Hon Karim Musah Kusubari who presented the Fertilizer on behave of government urged the people of West Gonja to take advantage of government initiatives such as the planting for food and jobs.

Hon. Musah Kusubari said government earmarked about 1.5 million farmers to benefit from the PFJ face 2.0 program through agrigators and the free distribution of fertilizers to farmers in order to encourage more people into farming.

Bole District Health Directorate holds a half-year review.

The Bole District Health Directorate held a half year annual review with stakeholder as part of the annual health review activities to interact with various stakeholders on the way forward.

The exercise brought together all the players in the health sector including private health facilities .

Addressing participants at the half year review the District Director of Health Services Queen Fuseina Sulemana welcome all stakeholders and said the meeting affords the Directorate the opportunity to interact with major stakeholders for quality health delivery.

The Director mentioned the objective for the year 2024 including comprehensive healthcare,safe maternal and child services,improve nutrition, immunization,conducting SMC among others.

Indicating the statistics within the half year Queen Fuseina said they have done significantly well.

She indicated that in 2023 an out patient visit was moved from 103,653 to 120,089.

Neonatal mortality rate and stillbirth remained at 4 per 1000 births representing 4.5%

She said on surveillance for epidemic prone diseases 7 suspected case of meningitis with no confirmed case were recorded.

Yellow fever recorded 26 cases with 5 positives and 5 deaths and COVID-19 suspected cases of 184 and 71 confirmed with one death.

Queen Fuseina additionally outlined other programs including a successful implementation of registration of household on point mass distribution of mosquito net, Seasonal Material Chemo-prevention,school deworming exercise among others.

Among all the achievements the Director said they have recorded three maternal death as a result of late delay by caretakers.

As she expressed her appreciation to member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi, Zakat Foundation of America and Children Believe.

She always mentioned some challenges as in lack of proper office accommodations for health Directorate, renovation of Kwame Kwesi and Jama CHPs compounds.

Expanding Maluwe, Kakiasi, Gbenfu CHPS compound and Tinga health centre, providing motor bikes for health facilities and refurbishing the hospital morgue provision of a port health service at Chache and provision adequate health staff accommodations, the Director noted the above as challenges confronting the District.

Addressing participants during a presentation the Medical Superintendent of Bole district hospital call for support.

He called for stakeholders support to buy a new generator for the hospital for emergency cases.

The superintendent call for support to build a functional blood bank to reduce mortality death.

Including his presentation the Gynaecologist call on the residents to patronize the wellness clinic at the hospital for free.

He indicated that hypertension case are serious in the District and if citizens petronise the wellness clinic they can identify these special cases and deal with them accordingly.

Abu Jinapor Challenges NDC’s Garlus to a Live Debate on Development and Jobs For The Youth

The Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency and NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging his opponents to a live parliamentary debate. He wants to discuss their visions, policies, and achievements with the people of Damongo Constituency.

Addressing hundreds of party supporters at the Zongo-Langbonto electoral area, Jinapor stated that his accomplishments in the constituency make him the clear choice for re-election. He highlighted his achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, women empowerment, and other sectors, declaring himself unmatched even in his fourth year in Parliament.

Jinapor noted that the Savannah Region has seven constituencies, with his opponents focusing on Damongo. He criticized the establishment of a radio station that only insults him, saying the people will judge based on development, not insults.
